Abstract

Summary:- The in vitro antibacterial activity of amoxicillin and florfenicol was evaluated against Aeromonas hyDROPhila pathogen. Also , the in vivo efficacy of both drugs was investigated on Clarias lazera fish experimentally infected with Aeromonas hyDROPhila, after their oral administration at their therapeutic dose levels (80 mg kg b.wt day) and (10 mg / kg b.wt / day) for 10 successive days in feed, respectively, The obtained results indicated that both amoxicillin and florfenicol were effective in vitro and in vivo against Aeromonas hyDROPhila microorganism.I-In-vitro studies: In vitro sensitivity test of A. hyDROPhila strain against amoxicillin and florfenicol using agar disc diffusion method showed that A. hyDROPhila was susceptible to amoxicillin with a clear zone of inhibition of (18mm) in diameter and highly susceptible to florfenicol with a clear zone of inhibition of (22 mm) in diameter
II-Efficacy of therapeutic dose of amoxicillin and florfenicol in fish experimentally infected with Aeromonas hyDROPhila: It was found that the numbers of dead fish in the groups administered amoxicillin and / or florfenicol were lower than that in control positive group and the mortality in infected group was (80 %) while in the infected and treated groups with amoxicillin and florfenicol were (16 %) and (12 %) respectively.III-Effects of some haematological parameters: 1- Fish treated with amoxicillin displayed non significant decrease in erythrocytic and packed cell volume while it showed significant decrease in haemoglobin and total leucocytic on 1st day post treatment compared with non infected non treated group while fish treated with florfenicol displayed slight decrease in all haematological parameters.
2- Infected non treated group showed significant decrease in erythrocytic count, haemoglobin concentration and packed cell volume while showed significant increase in total leucocytic count all over the the experimental period.
