Abstract

The detection of charged particle radiations is based on the fact that charged particle while pa sai.ng through the matter leaves a string of ionized atoms or molecules which can be detected. This means that the charged particle dissipates its energy in the ionization of the molecules of the medium. These ionization processes are the basis of all major instruments used for the detection and measurement of such particles. Similar instruments are also used for the detection of uncharged radiations which produce secondary charged particles in their passage through the matter In this work, we are interested in the study of ’the detection of charged particles of low energy and activity. So this study requires a discussion of various processes of ionization and excitation as follows.
