Abstract
With increasing awareness of environmental concerns, various chemical finishes for processing of textiles have been discussed. In this research work polycarboxylic acids have been used as-nonformaldhyde finishing agents for simultaneous dyeing and durable press finishing of cotton fabrics, to replace the traditional N-methylol reagents, in the presence of alkali metal salts, phosphours containing acids, and tri sodium citrate.
Factors affecting the process, such as the concentration of direct dyes or reactive dyes, polycarboxylic acids, and different catalysts, as well as the curing time and temperature were evaluated with respect to colour strength. Crease recovery angle, breaking strength and fastness properties were also investigated.
