Abstract Il-6, a novel monokine synthesized and secreted by stimulated monocytes, fibroblasts and several other cells (Billia,1987) was identified as a hepatocyte stimulating factor responsible for the induction of C-reactive protein synthesis in vitro(Castell et al., 1990), α2-macroglobulin, α1-acid glyco-protein, cysteine proteinase inhibitor, fibrinogen and α1-antirypsin in the rat in vivo (Geiger et al., 1998) and in vitro (Andus et al., 1988.) This work was performed to study the level of Interleukin-6(Il-6)and if there is a correlation between it and some other acute phase proteins in acute and chronic liver disorders. the study was conducted on 2 groups of patients and a group of apparently healthy subjects as controls. the first group included 25 patients with acute hepatitis(17 males and 8 females). Their age ranged between 10-40 years. The second group included 25 patients with chronic hepatitis(20 males and 5 females).Their age ranged between 28-65 years. These groups were compared with the control group(15 apparently healthy individuals). Their ages ranged between 20-35 years. |
