Abstract Limestone is an important material for cement manufacture. The addition of limestone to Portland cement may significantly improve several cement properties such as compressive strength, water demand, workability, durability and decreases the production costs. In addition, the European Standard (EN 197-1) identifies two types of Portland limestone cement containing 6 - 20 % limestone (type II/A-L) and 21 - 35 % limestone (type II/B-L) respectively. Addition of limestone filler to Portland cement produces several effects on the mechanism and the kinetics of cement hydration. Limestone filler causes a hydration acceleration of Portland cement clinker grains (especially C3S) at early ages. The present work aims to study the physico-mechanical properties of the Portland limestone filled cements. Four samples of limestone collected from different areas such as El- Menia, El- Suez. |
