Abstract
Although mammalian cochlear supporting cells do not normally regenerate like those of the bird, a beginning to understand some of the signals and molecules that block mammalian supporting cells from responding to hair cell loss is going on.
Regarding genetic strategy in management of SNHL (Genetic manipulation, gene therapy & stem cell transplantation), We are at the earliest experimental stages.
Regarding pharmacological strategy in management of SNHL, in the last decade some drugs such as α-lipoic acid proved to be beneficial in prevention of SNHL.
Steroid, antioxidants, vasodilators, antiviral, triiodinated benzoic acid derivatives, neurotrophic agent, magnesium, T- type calcium channel blockers, carbogen & hyperparic oxygen were utilized in treatment of SNHL.
