المستخلص Place of Study: Psychology Dept., Faculty of Education, Assiut University students in Assiut City through the recognition of the nature and fo The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between coping strategies and adjustment of deaf rms of coping strategies for deaf children through quantitative and qualitative measurement, the range of differences in the prevalence of kinds of maladjustment, the difference between deaf males and females in coping strategies and adjustment, the difference between low and high students in adjustment in coping strategies. The study sample consisted of 110 deaf students selected using simple random method (55 males and 55 females) with a decibel of 80 and higher (severity of the handicapping condition). The study tools were scale of adjustment prepared by Magda Hashim Bakheet (1997), scale of coping strategies (Ayers & Sandler, 1999), and translated by the researcher, and the interview checklist prepared by the researcher. The results of the study indicated the most frequent and prevalent strategies in the study sample – whether from standardized psychometric measurement or interviewing- were represented in the emotion- centered support, avoidance, and distracting, and there was a limited and insignificant effect of coping strategies in adjustment generally. Also, statistically significant differences were found between males and females in active coping in general, and cognitive decision making strategies on behalf of females in particular. The study results also showed that maladjustment is the most frequent for deaf individuals followed by family maladjustment. Social and school maladjustment are the least frequent followed by physical maladjustment. There were no differences between males and females in the |
