Abstract Introduction :Adhesion molecules play a key role in many biologic processes such as hemostasis and inflammation. Their function is to orchestrate cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix interactions and is complex and dynamic. They constitute a structurally diverse group of cell membrane receptors belonging to distinct families, that is, the selectin, the integrin, the immunoglobulin and the CD 44 families (Paul and Steven 2000) :This essay aims at reviewing the alteration in the different adhesion molecules and their possible role in the pathophysiology of relevant hematological malignancies. Methodology : A-Detection of adhesion molecules can be achieved through: I-Flow cytometry- II-ELISA: III-Immunohistochemical analysis: IV-PCR: V-Immunoperoxidaze staining: VI-Direct immunofluoresence staining: B-Functional or adhesion assay: 1-Endothelial-blast cell attachment assay: 2-Flow cytometric adhesion assay (FCAA): 3-Chromium-51 adhesion assay. |
