The aim of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of family counseling in alleviating neurotic depression of Faculty of Education students, Assiut University, the basic sample consisted of 438 3rd year college students (152 males, 286 females). The therapeutic sample consisted of 12 students (6 males with their families + 6 females with their families) who suffer from high depression. The clinical sample consisted of (3 males + 2 females).
The Instruments:
1- Youth neurotic depression scale (YNDS).
2- Beck depression Inventory (BDI).
3- Family Apperception Test (FAT).
4- High intelligence test.
5- Economic and social level estimation.
6- Family Counseling program (FCP).
The Main Results:
1. There are statistically significant differences in neurotic depression between males and females in favour of females.
2. There is a correlation between some kinds of abnormal family interaction and neurotic depression, as shown in the clinical sample.
3. The counseling program proved its effectiveness in relieving neurotic depression immediately after its application and in the follow up after two months later.
