Abstract

The study of the dynamic behavior of vibratory conveyors subjected to circular driving force is very complicated. Many variables affect the conveyor behavior, namely performance variables such as inclination angle of leaf springs, speed of the conveying material, amplitude of oscillation, the drive eccentricity and the power consumption, etc.
The present work represents an experimental investigation of the effect of the design parameters and the operating conditions on the dynamic behavior of the vibratory conveyor. For this purpose, an experimental vibratory conveyor model has been designed and manufactured according to the international standards. The experimental work was divided into three tests.
The first test was the static test to determine the stiffness of leaf and coil springs which strongly influences the operating frequency of the conveyor. For this purpose a special tension mechanism was designed and manufactured.
The second test was the free vibration test to estimate the natural frequency of the system and to help in characterizing the behavior of the structure; also it helps in estimating the stiffness of leaf and coil springs for more accuracy.
The third test was the performance of the conveyor under different operating conditions such as amplitude and frequency.
The performed measurements show that maximum productivity can be
achieved at the resonance state at which the natural frequency of the trough and the excitation frequency are equal. A pneumatic excitation system was suggested; also the control circuit has been discussed.
