Improving the Effectiveness of Agricultural Extension Work in the New Valley Governorate

Abstract
This research aims to:
1) Identify the available human and material resources of extension work in the New Valley governorate
2) Identify the extension activities implemented by the Extension System in the New Valley.
3) Identify the outputs of extension work in the New Valley.
4) Identify the most important obstacles facing extension work in the New Valley.
5) Identify the viewpoints of respondents including farmers and extension workers and researchers on how to improve the effectiveness of extension work in the New Valley.
The present research used several types of data obtained from various sources in addition to the data obtained from respondents including farmers, extension workers and researchers in the New Valley. The respondents included 87 extension workers, 10 researchers and 280 farmers drawn from the two villages of Boulak and El-Rashda. Data was collected by means of personal interviews using a questionnaire form prepared for this purpose. Frequency tables and percentages were also used for data presention and analysis. Many computer programs such as SPSS and Excel were used for data analysis
The results of the research can be summarized as follows:
1) The majority of extension workers (67.8%) see that the Extension System provides them with means of transportation, whether motorcycles or vehicles, to do their jobs.
2) The majority of extension workers (80.5%) see that apparatuses are not available or adequate to do extension work.
3) The majority of extension workers (96.6%) visit farmers in their fields. 93.1% of farmers visit extension workers in their offices and 71.3% of extension workers visit farmers at their homes.
4) The majority of extension workers (96.6%) hold extension meetings and use various techniques to announce these meetings. large numbers of farmers attend these meetings.
5) The majority of extension workers (86.3%) establish extension fields or aggregates.
6) The majority of farmers know and apply Agricultural Practices for various crops.
7) 47.5% of farmers have a positive attitude towards extension work, 37.5% have a neutral attitude, and 16.8% have a negative attitude.
