Abstract

” The aim of this study was to throw some light on the
pattern of bronchial asthma in Suez Canal area and study
the various factors which affect this pattern.
The study included 100 asthmatic children attending rural
and urban health units and general hospitals in Suez Canal
gevernorates.
Positive
test reactions were found
in 951. of
skin
asthmatic children,
thus belonging to the group of
’!:
extrinsic atopic asthmatics.
Skin tests using different allergic extracts
showed
positive cutaneous sensitivity to house dust extract in
791. of patients.
The figure was 551. for house dust mites,
thus denoting the importance of both house dust and house
dust mites as the major allerens causing asthma.
Regarding skin sensitivity to pollens, it was found in 361.
of patients compared to 231. for moulds, 221. for foods, and
301. for animal danders.
The factors affecting the pattern and course of
asthma
were studied and discussed one at a time.
