Abstract

Summary
This study was done for 68 children with proven urmary tract
infection and presented with repeated attacks of symptomatic UTI, aiming
at, finding out any underlying structural or functional urologic anomalies,
after a thorough laboratory and radiological work-up had been done.
The age of patients ranged between three to fifteen years old with
male to female ratio nearly 2: 1
The leading presenting symptoms were lower urinary symptoms in
the form of abdominal pain, (66.2%), dysuria (51.1 %) enuresis (26.5%)
and haematuria (22.1 %), fever was present in (80.8%).
Laboratory work-up included complete urine analysis, urine culture,
complete blood picture, C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation
rate. Blood chemistry included blood urea and serum creatinne. Urine
culture showed that the predominant organism was E.coli present in
(60.3%) of cases.
Anemia was present m (32.3%) of cases while Leucocytosis was
present in (85.8%) of cases.
E.S.R was high in (52.9%) of cases. C.R.P. was positive in (66.2%)
of cases.
