Development programs are the roadmap towards achieving development, thus it’s an essential component in all social and economic plans.
Egypt rural sector suffers from severe problems, i.e. poverty, unemployment and since 1952 revolution more attention was paid to this sector, as rural communities represent about 57.36% of total population (2006).
A number of social and economic projects were implemented in order to improve the Egyptian villages, which required coordination between various institutions related to this sector to unify all exerted efforts and ensure its integration.
Rural development plans aimed at directing its investments towards rural communities and focusing on poorest ones and all these plans adapted the participatory approach.
Development projects include a group of activities which can be planned, implemented and operated systematically and all that is under the supervision of certain authority to achieve specific goals within a time frame. Besides, it’s a mean to achieve various economic, cultural, behavioral and social objectives, though these projects play an important role in human development which will have impact on social aspects such as: work environment, production, social solidarity among people, standard of living, social security, crime, poverty, environment deterioration and is important to tackle and define its pros and cons.
Accordingly, rural development projects shadows rural people’s livelihoods and their environment, though the current study reviews some of these development projects i.e. drinking water, electricity, paved roads, one-class schools and productive families projects and its achievements in rural Assuit governorate and its social impacts.
