Abstract

The earthquakes are one of the natural hazard phenomena. In Egypt, the earthquake activity is relativity moderate, but it causes loses of lives and economic and social damages. This is due to following reasons: br 1) The subsurface structures and surface soils cause amplification to the propagated seismic waves. This leads to more destruction. br 2) Among the defined seismic sources in Egypt those, located in the northern part (-#119;-#104;-#101;-#114;-#101; the study area is located), generate shallow large shocks such as Dahshour seismic source. br 3) Mild events -#102;-#114;-#111;-#109; the East Mediterranean zone are strongly felt in the study area. br 4) Therefore, assessment of earthquake occurrence sequences in this region plays an important role in proposing measures to minimize earthquakes damages. br The studied area (Nile Delta) lies between latitudes 30o 10´ and 31o 45´ N and longitudes 30o 80´ and 31o 25´ E.
