Abstract

Grains are considered basic food crops of vital importance to the majority of population, especially in emerging contries. Wheat, rice, corn as well as sorghum are considered important nutrational grains in Egypt. Food grains are of particular importance not only as food but also as feed for animals.
The main objectives of this dessertation is to shed lights on the maJor dimentions of food grains gap in Egypt, and to try to benftt from these findings to detennine the main features and principles of a!:,Tficultural policy proposed to combat the food gap problem.
The study based on secondary data from various sources. Both descriptive and quatitative techniques have been used to analyze the collected data.
The study consists of introduction and five parts. The introduction deals with the research problem, which stated that there is an Egyptian foodgap. In addition, the introduction deals with research methodology, analysis techniques, sources of infonnation and data.
The first pari deals with a comperhensive theoriticol frame work, which consists of review of literature and research rxpretions and definitions.
The second parts deals with the production of food grains in Egypt, and the effect of the changes in major Economic factors. The cultivated area and the yield per feddan play an important role. Depending on these factors the study makes attempt to predict the total production in years 1995, 1996 and 2000.
