Abstract

For the greater part of each year most people live at home. Although they may
go to work, visiting friends and relatives, and take part in other social and
leisure activities, their homes are where they normally return every day and
where they spend the night. But many of them also increasingly stay away from
home, on business or on holiday or for other reasons, throughout the year. Many
of them stay in residential hotels.
Residential hotels provide living quarters for permanent and semi permanent
residents. They combine the comfort of apartment living with the convenience
of hotel services. Many have dining rooms and restaurants that also are open to
residents and to the general public. Residential hotels have many advantages for
hotel, guest, resort, and companies. This study investigates the adoption of
residential units as a new trend in Egypt as these hotels represent unknown hotel
segment in Egypt.
The literature review covers two main areas. The first area highlights nature and
characteristics of the residential hotels and the second area discusses the
advantages of residential hotels. The field study was accomplished through a
questionnaire form that was self- administrated by the researcher with the guests
within residential hotels. The results of the study show the characteristics of
residential hotel guest and factors that affect the selection of residential hotels
by long term guests.
