Abstract

Cement industry is considered as one of the strategic manufacturing industries around the globe as it is the basic component of making concrete, making this industry with a priority of having a careful planning and control of its manufacturing, transportation and managerial operations.
Because the decision of whether to stock components in the cement manufacturing warehouses or not and in what quantities is carried out by the plant maintenance engineer using his own expertise, an optimal additional quantity of spare parts stock in inventory is required to be calculated before starting the operation. Hence, the main objective of this report is to apply one of the methodologies for the purpose of determining the spare parts inventory which concerned with critical parts intended for maintenance tasks in a cement company.
The used methodology consists of two main phases; Pareto Analysis required to determine the plant with the most critical parts and Component Dynamic Criticality Analysis required to determine the criticality of each component and the additional stock required from this component.
The Pareto Analysis is conducted using MS Excel™ and the Component Dynamic Criticality Analysis is conducted using MS Access TM Database to simplify the use of the model for determining the optimwn additional quantity of spare parts inventory inside the cement manufacturing plant.
