Abstract

The present study was conducted during two successive seasons; 2001 and 2002 at Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta, Tanta University, on uniform and healthy one-year old ’Flame Seedless’ grapes nurslings. The study aimed to evaluate the effect of irrigation with saline water on the growth and some physiological and biochemical characters of’ Flame Seedless’ grapes nurslings and to evaluate the ability of Ca++ addition in form of Ca(NO3)2., as well as the spray with antitranspirant (Vapor Gard) on decreasing the harmful effect of the salinity.
The nurslings were planted on March in pots and irrigated twice weekly with tap water untill late May. Then, they were subjected to salinity treatments till the end of the growing season. At the same time in which the salinity treatments began, supplemental Ca(NO3)2 was mixed with salt solution, and spraying with antitranspirant (Vapor Gard) was applied one time monthly. A commercial sea salt (NaCI) produced by Alexandria Max Company without purification was used for salinizing irrigation water. Eight salinity treatments, beside tap water for the control.
