Abstract Diabetes is characterized by hyperglycemia and a markedly diminished insulin function. Over the long term of hyperglycemia generates a large number of free radicals, which induce cell oxidative stress. Oxidative stress from a disturbance in the balance between the formation of free radicals in the body and scavenging of these radicals. These ROS damage the function of all cell macromolecules and organelles. In physiological processes, antioxidative enzymes and different antioxidants protect the cells against harmful free radicals. Thus antioxidant administration would be beneficial in the treatment of diabetes. Botanical products such as cinnamon can improve glucose metabolism and over all condition of persons with diabetes not only by hypoglycemic effect but also by improving lipid metabolism, antioxidant status, and capillary function. The present study was undertaken to investigate the impact of oxidative stress in diabetes-induced tissue damage in rat. In addition to investigate if cinnamon can be modulate the oxidative stress -induced by diabetes mellitus. |
