Abstract The present experiments were carried out in Assiut University in 1990/1991, 1991/1992 and 1992/1993 seasons to study the effect of faba bean varieties and potassium sulphate level on growth, yield and hard seed and other related characters. Four varieties of faba bean namely Kobrousy, Long Equadore (major group), Assiut 62 and Assiut 103 (equina group) were used in this study. Three levels of the potassium sulphate tiamely 0, 300 and 600 kgs/feddan were used. Results arc summarized as follows: 1- Field experiiiiental results: 1— Kobrosy and Long Equadore (major group) showed later flowering, shorter plaiits with more tillers. They had wider pods, lower number of dry pO(l5 per plant and number of dry seeds per pod. On the other hand, these two varieties produced the heaviest dry seeds and lowest total yield of dry seeds per feddan. 2- Assiut 62 and Assiut 103 (equina cultivars) differed from the above major varieties under study in earlier flowering, taller plants with less tillers, higher number of dry pods per plants. rFliey had smaller pods in width, gave higher number of dry seeds per pod, produced lower weight of seeds. Assiut 103 tended to give higher yield in the two seasons, although the differences were not significant. 3- Assiut 103 and Assiut 62 gave highest number of healthy plants per plot and healthy pods at the end of 1991/1992 season. |
