Abstract
PILE FOUNDATION TYPES
1-2 piles are structural members of timber, plain concrete, reinforced concrete
or steel used to transmit surface column loads to lower levels in the suitable soil
layer of enough bearing capacity to support these loads.
main usage
piles are usually used in:
To carry the superstructure loads into or through a soil stratum. Both vertical and lateral loads may be involved. To resist uplift or overturning, forces as for basement mats below the water
table or to support tower legs subjected to overturning.
To compact loose, cohesionless deposits
To control settlement when isolated footings or a mat is one a marginal soil or
is underlaying by a highly compressible stratum.
