Abstract

Reproductive health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well- being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, in all matters related to the reproductive system and to its functions and processes. It is a human right and life long process.
A global reproductive health strategy was adopted by the World Health Assembly in May 2004, targets five core elements; improving ante-natal, natal, postnatal and newborn care; providing high quality services for family planning including fertility services; eliminating unsafe abortion; Combating sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, reproductive tract infections (RTIs), cancer cervix and gynecological morbidities; and promoting sexual health. Governments agreed to provide “universal access” to reproductive health by 2015 as part of a package for improvement of people’s health and well being.
The aim of this study is studying factors contributing to poor reproductive health; as lack of access to SRH is still a major public health concern especially in developing countries because of SRH policy and access to services are heavily influenced, often negatively, by socio cultural and political factors in the local and international context.
Women’s relative lack of decision-making power and their unequal access to employment, education, basic health care and other resources are considered to be the root causes of their ill-health and that of their children. Poverty, cultural traditions and legal barriers restrict their access to financial resources, making it even more difficult to seek health care for themselves or for their children.
Lack of knowledge and information, especially young people who lack basic knowledge about reproductive anatomy and physiology, how pregnancies or STIs occur, how to prevent them and where to obtain protection; Also, parents may wish to discuss sexuality with their children but are not well prepared to do it, and may feel ill-prepared, uncomfortable or embarrassed to talk about sex with their children
One of the obstacles confronting reproductive and sexual health programs may be specific structural factors associated with health system that can affect the access to health services and thus the health status of population, such as the way in which the service is provided, the quality of the service provision, inequality in health resources allocation especially within the rural regions and the extent to which the different sectors within the health system are linked with regard to resource sharing and service delivery.
