Abstract

Tennessee williams (1911-1983) is one of the few major playwrights in the contemporary american theatre. Through his contribution to playwriting, he has for over four deca-des dominated not only the stage of his own country but also of the international theatre. The dramatist considers writing a therapy for himself and a purification of sickness.
The first chapter deals with the personal life of tennessee williams and the different influences to which he was exposed as well as their impact upon his work.
The second chapter deals with the first phasa in tennessee williams’ career, it includes two plays, the will investigate through his personal life in order to trace both his mother’s influence and his sister’s whom are depicted cleverly.
The third chapter deals with one of a masterpiece in the American theatre, A Streetcar Named Desire as a very rich expansion of the character which he created in both previous plays.
The fourth chapter deals with the last two plays; The Rose tattoo and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
The Last part is a conclusion. I have consulted the MLA style in arranging the footnotes .
