Abstract
The aim of this study is to review the different aspects
concerning surface replacement arthroplasty of the hip and its possible
uses in different diseases of the hip joint.Total hip replacement is the most successful procedures in
surgery especially in elderly patients, produces pain relief and return
of function. However, in young patients total hip replacement
durability has been disappointing with early reoperation required for
component loosening the bone loss encountered, makes these revision
procedures challenging for both surgeon and the patient. It is clear that
a surgeon advising a hip replacement in a young patient has a duty to
warn the patient that failure will occur and that revision procedure will
be necessary in the future.
