Abstract
Schistosomiasis is one of the major health problems of increasing
importance in Egypt. Hepatitis B-virus is not less important as it is
highly endemic in our country. The involvement of antigen antibody
complexes in the renal injury associated with schistosomiasis and HBV
infection has long been questioned. The aim of this work is to study the
prevaknc~ of S. mansoni and HBV infection in children with proteinuria
and vice versa.
One hundredEgyptian children was included in this study, 40 of
them were infected with ~ mansoni (active cases), 40 children with
active nephrotic syndrome, and 20 healthy children acted as control
group.
A~ind~iduals were subjected to complete clinical assessment and to the following laboratory investigations:
I. Comp-ete urine analysis and urine culture.
2. Iant;tative protein estimation in urine per 24 hours.
