Abstract
Purpose: To compare the results of arthroscopic Bankart repair performed with knot-tying with results of the procedure performed with knotless suture anchors. Methods: We evaluated 41 patients who underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair. A total of 23 patients were treated with knot-tying suture anchors, and 18 patients were treated with knotless suture anchors during the same period. In all, 39 male and 2 female patients were studied. Mean patient age at the time of operation was 24 years (range, 17 to 47 years), and the mean follow-up period had a duration of 19.5 months (range, 10 to 28 months duration). Results: Total Rowe Shoulder score improved in both groups (P<0.001). postoperative ROM score, postoperative function improvement score, postoperative stability score and total postoperative Rowe score in both groups showed that the results of knotless anchor group were slightly better, however this difference was statistically insignificant (P= 0.08, 0.08, 0.24, and 0.78 respectively). In the knotless anchor group, one patient (4.3%) developed recurrence in form of subjective sense of subluxation that occurred twice. In the knotted anchor group, one patient (5.5%) developed recurrence in form of 3 recurrent attacks of dislocation. Conclusions: The knot-tying and Knotless suture anchor groups showed improvement in postoperative total Rowe shoulder score after arthroscopic Bankart repair. The results of knotless anchor group were slightly better, however this difference was statistically insignificant and both groups had similar recurrence rate.
