Abstract Upper respiratory tract infection is one of the most com~on diseases which affect children and it is caused by many microorganisms. These infection include nasopharyngitis tonsillitis, acute pharyngitis, acute sinusitis and otitis media. There are many predisp~sing factors for upper respiratory tract infection which may be intrinsic or environmental factors. The intrinsic factor include age, obesity constit- utional factors, gestitional age, congenital malformation anatomic obstruction, allergy, nutrition, vitamin deficincy and geneticaJ and metabolic diseases. The environmental factors in the form of quality of maternal care, smoking of parents, air pollution, social class and unduce exposure to infection. Upper respiratory tract infection may be caused by many viruses or bacteria so we in need for simple rapid test for differentiation between bacterial and viral ifnection for pr~per use of antibiotic CRP is that test we use in our study in association with throat swab for culture on ordinary media and blood sampling f.o r compelet blood picture.
