Abstract

The use of mobile has dramatically increased all over the world.
Mobile phones have become a more and more widespread means of communication.
Since mobile phones have come into widespread use.a lot of possible adverse effects and hazards to health are anticipated due to potentially harmful radiofrequency electromagnetic field.
The thermal change in the nerve fiber exposed to cellular electromagnetic field is enough to damage the nerve cell. In some aspect of the study about the blood brain barrier changes may occur on electromagnetic field exposure (Lesczczynski et al. 2002).
There are few substances that are toxic and initiate the damage in brain and nerve tissue after expose to electromagnetic field. It may affect auditory organ like cochlear and auditory nerve in the same ways (Lai et al., 1997).
There is public anxiety about possible cancer risks from mobile phone use. Although no such effect has been established to date, if it existed it would be of significance because of the high prevalence of use, there are currently more than 1 billion mobile phone users worldwide (Dimbylow et Mann,1999).
This study was carried out on three voluntary groups of 10 subjects.
Group one : N = 10
Used phone for 50-60 min\ day (intensive users).
Group two : N = 10
Used phone for 20-30 min\day (moderate users).
Group three : N = 10
Subjects who never used a mobile phones.
The patients in this study were subjected to the following :
1-History taking.
2-Otoscopic examination.
3-Pure tone audiometry.
4-Tympanometry
5- Transient evoked otoacoustic emission (TEOAEs).
The effect of mobile phone radiation appears clearly on the results of OAEs at 3KHz, 5KHz in intensive users and 5KHz in moderate users.
Collectively, electromagnetic field radiation may indeed have an effect on the outer hair cells but its biological effects is seen further along the auditory pathway. Therefore it is advisable to perform further investigations to explore the effect of cellular phone on the cochlear nerve and auditory pathway.
