Abstract

Fetuses with severe placental insufficiency showed signs of increased venous pressure. These fetuses were usually delivered earlier than those with normal umbilical artery Doppler. Placental dysfunction predisposes the fetus to progressive deterioration of acid-base balance and irreversible impairment of organ function, mainly the central nervous system and heart. The antepartum quantification of this fetal involvement is fundamental for the optimal timing of delivery before the occurrence of fetal myocardial cell injury.
In this study, one hundred and twenty preeclamptic women fulfilled the inclusion criteria participated in this study, all cases were subjected to complete history taking, general examination, routine laboratory investigations, non stress test and ultrasound examination within 24 hours before delivery to document fetal viability, gestational age, amniotic fluid volume, and fetal Doppler analysis to umbilical artery, middle cerebral artery and ductus venosus waveform.
