Abstract

The effect dipyrone and paracetamol on the pharmacokinetic pathway of cephalexin and doxycycline after there concomitant administrations in normal healthy dogs were studied. The effects of these simultaneous coadministration during five continuous days of treatment on some serum enzymatic activities and levels of creatinine and urea in dog serum. In vitro estimation of cephalexin and doxycycline serum protein binding percents were estimated in normal dog serum either alone or after their combination with dipyrone or paracetamol. The results indicated that dipyrone and paracetamol altered the pharmacokinetic pathway of cephalexin and doxycycline in different manner. Dipyrone and paracetamol decreased the absorption half live of cephalexin and doxycycline and increased its elimination half live and increased the peak serum concentration and time needed to reach the peak serum concentration of these antibiotics.Dipyrone and paracetamol did not affect serum protein binding of cephalexin or doxycycline but they reversibly affect the liver and kidney functions.
