Abstract

Eight cross breed calves 4 months old were vaccinated with I ml /SC
live attenuated RVF-MPI2 with titer 510glO TCIDso/ml. The safety and
potency of this vaccine were evaluated and follow up the duration of
immunity by ELISA and SNT through 12 months post vaccination.
There were no clinical signs or untoward effects at the site of injection
post vaccination with RVF-MPI2 vaccine except slight elevation of the
body temperature which was detected after 14 days post vaccination.
The virus was isolated from serum from either febrial or afebrial
calves in the 200, 3fd and 4th days post vaccination, but it was not recoverd
neither from nasal, occular nor rectal swabs.
Rapid onset of immunity was detected at 7 days post vaccination,
reached their peak at 6 months and still in the protective level till the io”
month post vaccination.
So the live attenuated RVF-MPI2 vaccine induce immunity in calves
for a period not exceed 10 months despite its scientific uproar.
