Abstract

The present study revealed that:- For prophylactic purposes, the most suitable doses of the locally produced cell culture inactivated rabies vaccine are 3ml. for sheep, 4ml. for cattle, horse and donkey and 6ml. for camel to provide these animals with protective levels of immunity up to one year and we recommend annual vaccination of farm animals especially those placed in areas near to rabies vectors. Either homologous or heterologous species rabies anti sera could be used safely in emergency cases of rabies infection, providing protective passive immunity up to two weeks. To obtain the best immunization of farm animals post exposure to rabies infection, it could be recommended to use both rabies anti serum and vaccine as soon as possible on the time of exposure followed by four successive doses of rabies vaccine on week intervals.
