Abstract Adherence to therapeutic regimen is a major problem in patients with ESRD as a chronic disease that needs long term of follow up. Adherence with the recommendations and treatments of healthcare providers is critical to the efficacy of disease interventions. Further work is needed to develop effective interventions for improving adherence to the prescribed regimen required for optimizing health outcomes. Aim of the study:- The present study was designed to explore adherence to the therapeutic regimen of hemodialysis patients attending Health Insurance hospitals in middle delta branch. 1- Assessment of knowledge of hemodialysis patients about therapeutic regimen (dietary management, fluid intake, medication, sessions of hemodialysis and follow up consultation) 2- Clarify the beliefs of hemodialysis patients regarding perception of their illness, perceived susceptibility to hemodialysis complications, perceived benefits and perceived barriers of treatment. 3- Assessment of pattern of adherence of hemodialysis patients toward their therapeutic regimen. 4- Identify some factors affecting hemodialysis patients’ adherence to their therapeutic regimen. Target population and study sample:- A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 300 hemodialysis patients randomly selected from renal dialysis units at Health Insurance hospitals in middle delta branch. Data collection:- A. All patients of the study sample were subjected to an interview questionnaire. The pre-designed interviewing questionnaire was used to collect the following data from hemodialysis patients: 1- Sociodemographic data about hemodialysis patients as age, sex, socioeconomic level, educational level, and family history of ESRD. 2- Knowledge of hemodialysis patients about ESRD and their therapeutic regimen (medication, diet, fluid restrictions, attendance of hemodialysis sessions, periodic follow up to the nephrologists). 3- Patient’s health beliefs regarding perception of severity of ESRD, perceived susceptibility to hemodialysis complications, perceived benefits and perceived barriers of hemodialysis treatment. 4- Pattern of patients’ adherence in terms of dietary management, fluid intake, medication, sessions of hemodialysis and follow up consultation 5- Factors affecting adherence of hemodialysis patients about their therapeutic regimen. |
