Abstract

Abstract
Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, It increases the likelihood of various diseases, particularly hypertension, high blood cholesterol, coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, breathing difficulties during sleep, certain types of cancer, and osteoarthritis .
Also obese pregnant women are at greater risk of a number of maternal and fetal complications including pre-eclampsia, cesarean section and intrauterine fetal death
The detection of GDM is important because of its associated maternal and fetal complications including macrosomia, birth injury, cesarean delivery, neonatal hypoglycemia, polycythemia and bilirubinemia. Treatment with medical nutrition therapy, close monitoring of glucose levels, and insulin therapy if glucose levels are above goal can help to reduce these complications.
This review studies the pre-gravid obesity and its relation to gestational diabetes and their implications on pregnancy outcome .
