Abstract [ Th presnt work w&s coducted to study th tif 0ct of fieinc. on tht frequency of mutations inductd by the alkyla— iflg ants ethy1xat.thansu1fonat (ES), ditbylamint (DEA), rithanolaminc. (TMA) in ua1es ot Drosophila u1anogaster. Th first oart of bhc_i irivcstjatjon was corned out to tud’ th effets of fbcding caffuine to females, and the scond was dsignd to study the affots of feeding caffeine nixod wt the aiLy1atin agents to mo1s. For each alt;la— tint agcnUs two crnsc-itrQtions vur tested (0.5 and 0.5 per dent), whil. cQff&ifle wcis ap1id at 0.2 pr cent concntra— tion. Thne typts at’ rnuttions were studied, dornincnt lethals, rccessive sex—linked ethc1s, and svxchromosome losses. Th results of tht present study suggest thnt (1) Fedin C3ffiLm to females increased the frequency of dominant itthals, rcsaive sex—linked 1thols and sa — chromosome losses iijauca in males by 3.3 and 0.5 per cent ELIS, flEA and TMA. Tills ffect was attributdd to the inhibiting effcot of cai-fein on the u1atrua1 repair process acting in oocytus which ar rqliird for thu rpair r nisrepair of choiao.3on brcaks iLducd in th p&ternal cnome by the a1ky1atin ag.iits. Tiiest £indiç,s are in areetant with those rported by idcn&elson (1974) and Lind1son and sobels (19?4) ofter )C — irecdiation |
