Abstract In seawater treatment systems of continuous running process industries with closed vessels, Membrane based process etc, algae growth control measures like physical cleaning, restriction of light entry etc could not yield sustainable results. While physical cleaning could be helpful in ing the algae growth initially, unless the alga is removed from incoming streams, further of algae could not be restricted. Chemical treatment could be of help in managing the situation in plants like these. The most widely • used chemical for this purpose if Chlorine which can be from many sources like direct chorination, as chlorine dioxide, sodium hypo chlorite etc. Chlorination is helpful in restricting pe growth in sea water treatment systems and this would be the best solution for continuous itigation of algae growth in sea water treatment systems For continuous running sea water treatment systems with closed process vessels, a low chlorine c:ontentration in the range of about I - 2 ppm itself could yield the benefit to the practically manageable level i.e to about 30 counts measured through Millipore sampling kits |
