Abstract
the use of high strenght concrete has been steadily increasing due to its many advantages over normal strenght concrete. HSC is used primary in high rise building to significantly decreasethe dimensions of the columns in lower stories, there by reducing the volume of concrete, studies have shown, however , that HSC is more brittle tham NSC.brittle behaviour of hign strength concrete in compression has to some extent, limited its application in seismically active region. commonly to overcome the adverse effect of such brittleness on the colum behaviour, thoughful confinement is adopted.
