Abstract

The present work aimed to study the genetic performance in the crosses between Egyptian cotton genotypes and other barbadense cotton genotypes through line x tester analysis and to study correlation and path coefficient analysis of four crosses in F; generations. Four Egyptian cotton genotypes i,e. Giza 45, Giza 86, Giza 88 and Giza 90 used as lines arid four foreign barbadense cotton genotypes i.e. Karshenky, Pima 87, Suvin and Australian used as tester, Factorial mating design was carried out at Giza Experimental station in 2007 season to obtained 16 crosses which evaluated and their parents in 2008 season in RCBD with three replications in three locations i.e., Giza, Sakha and Pelqass and the following traits were studied. The studied characters were:
A- Yield and yield component characters:
Number of bolls/plant. Seed cotton yield/plant, Lint cotton yield/plant, Lint percentage, Boll weight and Seed index.
B- boll related characters:
Boll length, Boll diameter. Flower neck length. Bract length, Bract width and Bract area
C- Fiber traits:
Fiber length (2.5% span length), fiber strength and fiber fineness.
Part I- Line x tester experiment
Line x tester analysis outlined by Kempthorne (1957) was used to calculate the genetic parameters i.e., combining ability and genetic variance components.
