Abstract evidence-based medicine has emerged as a new paradigm for medical practice. It involves integrating individual clinical expertise with the best available external clinical evidence and compassionate use of individual patients’ rights and preferences in making clinical decisions about their care. Awareness of the latest scientific evidence and the ability to critically appraise literature and assess its applicability has been identified as integral to the practice of EBM. The aim of this study was to assess awareness, attitude and practice among family physicians in Dakahlia governate towards EBM as all physicians should be competent in searching and using the best evidence in order to proceed to the best clinical practice and improve patients care. A cross-sectional study was carried out from first of January 2010 till the end of October 2010, in Dakahlia governate among all family physicians working in family health centers. There were 20 board certified physicians and 100 non board certified family physicians who participate in this study. All board physicians were below age of 30 years, (58%) of non board were in age below 30 years, about (70%) of board and non board were females, all of board physicians examined less than 20 patients daily but only (55%) of non board examined less than 20 patients daily, the majority of family physicians work in rural areas. . |
