Abstract Mental illness refers to a disorder causing people to display abnormal behavior more consistently than most people do. Living in the shadow of chronic mental illness can have a huge emotional and psychological impact on patients and their cargivers. Caregiving is a chronic stressor and different coping methods are used to handle such a situation. This study aimed to identify psychosocial problems and different coping methods of family caregiver of chronic psychotic patients. The study setting was in the psychiatric out patient clinics of EL-Mabrah health insurance hospital and EL-Nasr general governmental hospital in Port Said city, on a total sample of 106 family caregivers. Results revealed that, most of family caregivers of chronic psychotic patient have psychological and social problems, this problems are statistically significantly related to their age, sex, income and kinship to the patient. Also the findings showed that cope with their problems adaptivelly. |
