Abstract Postpartum hemorrhage is a major complication third stage of labor, ninety percent of postpartum hemorrhage are caused by uterine atony. The use of uterotonic drugs is a method of active management third stage of labor such as oxytocin, methergine, misoprostol and syntometrine. of this study is to assess the effect of oxytocin versus ergometrine in active managetnent of third stage of labor on the amount of blood loss. This study was conducted at El~Nasr Hospital in Port Said City, the sample was composed of 198 women according to data were collected through a structured interviewing questionnaire socio-demographic data, obstetrical profile partogram, and outcome of oxytocin versus ergometrine on blood loss. The results of the study revealed that mean age group from 20-35 years. The majority of blood loss in oxytocin also revealed mean of labor duration 9.85±26.4 in oxytocin compared with 8.85±2.85 in methergine group a positive correlation between gravidity, mode of delivery, manual placental delivery and blood loss. According to these results, the researcher recommended that, thee use of oxytocin reduction the amount of blood loss and postpartum hemorrhage, and prevent the etiect such as nausea, vomiting and hypertension. |
