Abstract In this thesis, based on the transfer matrix method, we theoretically study the interaction between the electromagnetic waves and the multilayer one dimensional periodic structure. The main idea within this thesis is concentrated in explaining the advantages of one dimensional metallic photonic crystals over than one dimensional dielectric photonic crystals. The effects of these advantages will greatly appear on the response of the photonic band gap. The characteristics of photonic band gap produced within this interaction and the transmission properties will be studied in the ultraviolet (UV) region, visible and infrared regions for one-dimensional binary and ternary photonic crystals. Within the calculated transmission characteristics in the wavelength domain, it can be found that the metallic Plasmon frequency has a novel effect on the photonic band gap. This effect can be described in the form of the comparison between the photonic band gap. |
