Abstract

This study was designed to make a comparison between ( Bactocell and Revitilyte-PlusTM) as a probiotics and their effect on the general performance, hematological parameters, biochemical constituents of blood and immune response. Three hundred- one day old broiler chicks were included in this study which were divided at the first three weeks into three groups as follow:
Group (C) composed of 100 chicks, fed on a balanced ration and considered as the control group.
Group (L) composed of 100 chicks, fed on a balanced ration with probiotic (1) supplementation (Revitilyte-PlusTM at a rate of 1 gm/4 liter of water).
Group (P) composed of 100 chicks, fed on a balanced ration with probiotic (2) supplementation (Bactocell, at a rate of 1kg/ton ration).
At the 4th week of age each of the previous groups was subdivided into 2 groups as follow:
Group (C) composed of 50 chicks, fed on a balanced ration and considered as the control group.
Group (L) composed of 50 chicks, fed on a balanced ration with probiotic (1) supplementation (Revitilyte-PlusTM at a rate of 1 gm/4 liter of water).
Group (P) composed of 50 chicks, fed on a balanced ration with probiotic (2) supplementation (Bactocell, at a rate of 1kg/ton ration).
Group (C+S) composed of 50 chicks, fed on a balanced ration and in the 5th week of age was infected with 8 x 1012 Salmonella kentucky for 2 successive days (1ml in the first day and 0.5 ml in the second day).
Group (L+S) composed of 50 chicks, fed on a balanced ration with probiotic (1) supplementation (Revitilyte-PlusTM at a rate of 1 gm/4 liter of water) and in the 5th week of age was infected with 8 x 1012 Salmonella kentucky for 2 successive days (1ml in the first day and 0.5 ml in the second day).
Group (P+S) composed of 50 chicks, fed on a balanced ration with probiotic (2) supplementation (Bactocell, at a rate of 1kg/ton ration) and in the 5th week of age was infected with 8 x 1012 Salmonella kentucky for 2 successive days (1ml in the first day and 0.5 ml in the second day).
The infected birds were kept under observation daily to notice any clinical signs and mortality.
The period of the experiment extended to 7 weeks through which weighting of birds and collection of blood and serum samples was done. Blood samples were collected from all groups in the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th weeks of age for evaluation of the hemogram, serum biochemical constituents and antibody titer by ELISA.
Hematological examination included RBCs count, hemoglobin concentration, PCV%, total leucocytic count and differential leucocytic count, while the biochemical parameters included serum total protein, albumin, globulins, total cholesterol, HDL-c, LDL-c, triglycerides, glucose, uric acid, creatinine, and activities of AST and ALP. Humeral immunity was evaluated by using ELISA. Tissue specimens were collected from liver, kidney, spleen, heart and intestine for histopathological examination.
In comparison to the mean values of group C , the following results were observed
L and P Groups : There was significant increase in body weight in L group at 2nd and 3rd weeks while P group significantly increased at all weeks of the experiment. Results of erythrogram showed insignificant changes in RBCs count, hemoglobin concentration, PCV%, MCV and MCHC, while that of leucogram revealed .
