Abstract During the recent years, a great interest has been raised in diarrhea in weanling rabbits, as this condition responsible for major losses in commercial rabbitries. The importance of rabbit meat as a source of food for human consumption is well established long time ago. However, over the last years its nutritious value is well understood by consumers, especially after the last food ”scandals” that affected other sectors of animal origin food production. Rabbit meat belongs to white ones, thus it is a particularly healthy animal origin protein source that makes it the consumers’ first option. The incidence of digestive system’s problems is high in rabbits. Among them enteritis comes first, as it represents almost 80% of the digestive system diseases and this is one of the main reasons behind the deterioration of the enterprises that deal with the intensive production of rabbit meat. Intestinal disturbances in rabbits are characterized by the occurrence of watery feces or diarrhea. Young weaned rabbits aged between 4 to 10 weeks appear to be more prone to this problem than older adult rabbits. It rarely occurs in new-born rabbits, probably due to the milk of the doe which has anti-bacterial properties. |
