Here in Egypt, is a very troubling disease specially in children as it can cause many problems to the child and his family socially and financially. Many causes have been discussed in the pathogenesis of otitis media in children. Adenoids have been considered for a long time as an important eitiological factor. In this study, we tried to compare histopathologically between the adenoids different children with and without otitis media ( SOM and CSOM), concentrating on the mast cell count in different children and trying to search for a role of these cells in middle ear inflammation. This was achieved by histopathological examination of the adenoids of 60 children, of them: - 20 have normal middle ear function. - 20 have secretory otitis media. - 20 have chronic suppurative otitis media. Mast cells were counted in different specimens and their counts were the ages, sexes as well as to the size of the adenoids in lateral X-ray nasopharynx. The results of our study showed that there were higher mast cell counts in the adenoids of children having SOM or CSOM than those with normal |
