Abstract Secretory otitis media, defined as a collection of fluid of variable character in the middle ear cavity, is one of the commonest diseases of children. The aim of this work is to study the pathological changes of middle ear mucosa in cases of secretory otitis media and treated surgically by myringotomy alone or with intubation by ventitating tubes in ear drum. Thirty two pateitns suffering from secretory otitis media were selected from Zagazig University Hosptial. Their ages ranged from four to forty years. They were 20 males and 12 females. They were subjected to the following procedures : • Complete history taking . • Complete E. N. T. examination. • Otomicroscopic examination. • Audiometry and tympanometry. • Biopsies from middle ear mucosa covering promontory were taken. • Histopathological study under light microscope. Most patients were presented with hearing impairment. Occasionally with ims or earache. The main findings were peripheral vascularization of the ead with loss its 1uster.
