The purpose of thiS investigation is to study the ability of some agronomie characters in 48 safflower hamus tincitorius, L) collections which were collec— from three provinces, namely, Sohag, Kena and .Aswan0 other collections were obtained from the Ministry of
‘iculture, Egypt. These collections were cultivated in seasons of 1969 and 19’70 at the farm of Faculty of riculture at Assiut, in a Randaniized Complete Block
sign replicated four times0 Each collection was sown two rows 65 cul. apart and 6 meters long, and spaced zt cm. between hills. A sample of five plants were taken
andomly from each collection.
The characters studied in this investigation were, plant height, number of branches p€r plant numbar of ieads per plant, hesa ajameter, yield of seeds in grams per plant, weight of seeds pe terminal head, weight of 100—seeds, oil content and oil constants, degree of spininess, colour of the flowers, and resistante and susceptibility to Fusarium wilt.
