Abstract This observational study was conducted at Ain Shams University maternity hospital through out the period between 1-9-2008 and 28-2-2009 to find out the maternal and fetal morbidity in vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections either emergency or elective and to compare these results among a sample of women attending Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital in 6 months. The total morbidities in vaginal deliveries ( spontaneous vaginal deliveries and instrumental vaginal deliveries ) were 4.18 % while the total morbidities in cesarean sections (elective cesarean section , emergency cesarean section ) were 13.65%. The current study identified 10 cases(1.1%) who were admitted to maternal intensive care unit due to complications of delivery. 3 cases of them delivered vaginally, while on the other hand 7 cases delivered by cesarean sections. The Main indications were post partum hemorrhage, HELLP syndrome and thromboembolic complications. The elective cesarean sections were associated with highest risk of maternal intensive care unit admission Odd’s ratio (2.59),CI(0.7- 9.03). |
