Abstract
Milieu therapy has long existed as an effective treatment modality for the mentally ill. It has also been a significant aspect of psychiatric mental health nursing practice for several decades. In summary, nursing practice is based on two themes: one-to-one relationships and management of the patient milieu. Psychiatric-mental health practice offers new challenges for nursing staffs. Milieu therapy continues to be a valid approach to treatment. It must now be evaluated. In psychiatric inpatient unit in Assiut University hospital applied milieu therapy and appearance the effects of this treatment modality on patients’ improvement, social context and ward atmosphere, after that application of drug and electro convulsive therapy only but now the ward shaped by comfortable and home like atmosphere this depends very much on the quality and depth of the complex network of interrelate system in the milieu. This study was carried out to assess the actual milieu includes milieu process, milieu atmosphere, relationships, treatment modalities, daily living activities and nursing role in milieu.
